GFF-0431 Washington Wetlands Activation 10.12.2021

Today I decided to do a new GxFF activation in the North of England this one been Washington Wetlands just " West of Sunderland  " . I took the Northern Rail service from Hartlepool to Sunderland and then the Tyne and Wear metro service to South Hylton which is the last stop on the system and then the walk to Cox Green which is around 3 miles to the Washington Wetlands Centre.  Once arrived I set up the UK Antennas 49:1 with the 80m antenna which is around 22m long and over a few trees I was ready to go . The radio was the Icom IC-705 running 5w and I worked a number of P2P qsos and a few around the UK and Europe on 40m and 20m and also worked a few on 80m with a total of 50 contacts.  I was using the 2ZE suffix /P  and will be through to December 26th 2021. I managed to qualify for the activation but only just with poor conditions and deep QSB , All logs have been uploaded to EQSL WWFF and CQGMA.  www.cqgma.org...

Durham Coast NNR / SAC GFF-0107 12.12.2021 Today's trip out which I do most Sundays WX permitted to do some portable HF radio . I had seen yesterday that Bob M0MJA was going to activate 2 Lighthouses and just had to try and work him today , The first one was a bit difficult on 40m but his signal peaked above the contest stations and managed to get the first one in the log using the 49:1 & 40m to 10m antenna by " UK Antennas  " see photo below.  The radio was the Icom IC-705 5w and bands where 40m 7 mhz and 80m 3.744 mhz . I also managed to work a couple of portable stations around Europe these been  > SQ9BQW/P Sota Ref: SP/BZ-082  ON2LVC/P Castle Ref : ON-02723  OK1NP/P Ref : OKFF-1489 OK4KOP/P GMA Ref: OL/JM-015 The Antenna above was the " UK Antennas 80-10m " with the coil hence the bend on the pole.  Total worked today was 55 and the band was in much better shape than yesterday and previous activations.  73...

The Icom IC-705

The Icom IC-705  I've been using the Icom IC-705 now for over a month operating portable in the field at just 5w and when the IC-705 first came out I wasn't tempted to purchase it . But now after using the transceiver I'm really enjoying it  , The battery packs really do last quite a while  " BP-272 " around 1 full activation 5-6 hours and the BP-307 I've had 2 days out of one and currently have 3 of each and the drop in charger.   The MAT 705 tuner " plus  " is definitely worth the purchase and is the cage for added protection.  I'm hoping to keep by blogs from portable upto date on here and also in the HF Highlights section of Practical Wireless magazine each month .
